Seth James

Seth James

Born in Ft. Worth and raised in King County, just north of Abilene, it is no surprise that Seth James comes across as much of a Texan on the outside as he is on the inside. With a skilled piano player for a grandfather, and an accomplished drummer for a father, Seth James’ musical itch was inherited, as he tried his young hand at both the piano and the trumpet. James found his niche, though, when he started playing guitar during high school.

When he left his home to attend Texas A&M University, Seth James found the perfect environment in which to hone his growing musical skills. It was in College Station where James began playing guitar in a college country band, which James humbly recalls as a good excuse to drink beer. The fates were surely at work, though, when the band’s bassist, Philip Tom, realized that James had sold him his first bass while working at a local music store. The country band dissolved, but Seth James and Philip Tom were to remain a magnetic musical pair, showcasing their growing talents in College Station establishments such as Fitzwilly’s and Shadow Canyon. Since College Station, things have really taken off for this future Texas blues legend. Seth James’ recent move to Austin places him in the “Mecca” of Texas music opportunity, a place that has undoubtedly embraced this one of a kind talent. Seth James’ ability to cross musical boundaries makes him a welcome addition to any stage, as he has “wowed” Texas music fans while performing with many of Texas’ finest, including Texas music legend Jerry Jeff Walker, Junior Brown, and Omar and the Howlers, to name a few. Part of James’ songwriting appeal is that he isn’t easily pigeon-holed into one musical genre or style.

Seth James’ debut album, Bad Luck and Trouble is a glowing example of this songwriter’s ability to captivate listeners. Produced by Kelly Donnelly, a veteran blues musician who not only performed with Bobby Mack, but also currently performs with Ray Von, Bad Luck and Trouble is sure to be a stronghold in Texas music.
