Johnny Dunn & The I Dare Ya Blues Band

Johnny Dunn & The I Dare Ya Blues Band

Johnny Dunn Started his musical endeavor at the age of 7, playing acoustic guitar for the local guitar mass services in his area. At the Age of 12 he picked up the bass guitar and the obsession he has for it is still a compulsion. His influences range from Mel Schacher of " Grand Funk Railroad" to James Jamerson of Motown Fame. " The Sound he produces is as big as he is with his own distinctive style" Joe Grandwilliams 1996. In 1983 as a member of the rockabilly trio "Joey Ace and the Deal" the band recorded the #1 single of the year by an unsigned act with "Give Me A Chance" In 1986 John had the honor to play and record with The Hall & Oates Band. Wanting to play his own music he recorded and played out for the next 6 years with his band a local favorite "Armed and Ready. In a chance meeting Russell Stone from "The Deal" he was invited to a show Russ was doing with Phil Varca & The Slamjammers . Phil a long time friend was looking for a bassist, so in 1992 Johnny joined the Slamjammers and they were off on a 6 year attack on the blues scene. The Band was critically acclaimed throughout the Blues Societies Nationally ( and might I say Still going strong)The band was named the "Best Blues Trio"and their CD "Ready Willing And Able" is still a much talked about event In 1998 Johnny went out on his own again and formed the Smoke Daddys with Drummer Chris Anstiss, Guitarist Joe Vicino, and harpist/vocalist Luke Alvino. Their first CD included the song "We Once Knew" in which Johnny's lyrics and bass playing have been praised by many of the most notable writers and musicians in the tri-State area. After recording a second CD the original band dismembered. Johnny has now teamed up with, Chris Anstiss and long time friend Kane Daily to put together the Dare ya Blues Band, with the addition of seductive soulful keyboards and vocals of Mike DiMeo and cameo apperances by Frank Latorre from the King Bees on Delta Harp.
